McNerney calls for Army to investigate ailing Stockton private's medical care
STOCKTON — Congressman Jerry McNerney, D-Stockton, is calling on the U.S. Army to launch an investigation into the medical care received by a Stockton private whose untreated case of strep throat during basic training earlier this year developed into a flesh-eating disease that cost him the lower half of his left leg. Writing on behalf of 21-year-old Dez Del Barba, McNerney sent the one-page letter to U.S. Army Secretary Dr. Mark Esper late last week. "I am requesting a thorough investigation into the handling of (Del Barba's) medical care by Army medical personnel, as well as the medical care for any other service members at Fort Benning who tested positive for Group A Streptococcus," McNerney wrote...
